The Lehigh Valley Arts Council is conducting the arts census to give artists, arts professionals and arts patrons in our region visibility and credibility. Painters, sculptors, filmmakers, dancers, actors, choreographers, musicians, poets, writers and anyone else living in the Lehigh Valley who creates and communicates through art is welcome to fill out the arts census.

Most arts research focuses on institutions, and too often the artist’s voice is not included in the policy discussions.
A comprehensive arts census in our region will accomplish several objectives:

1. Create a stronger creative community to work with and connect with in the Lehigh Valley.
   
   
2. With a concrete count, artists become more “real” to the larger community.
   
   
3. As the Arts Council gains a broader understanding of who’s here, we will be able to offer better services.

Ultimately, the data collected will be used to provide each person who fills out the census a listing--free of charge--in the Arts Council’s online arts directory. The site will promote the scope and value of the arts professional and will allow the Arts Council to engage with them more directly in advocacy efforts.
