Dear
Educator,
 |
Keystone Program / South Mt. Middle School |
Through
arts education, or the study of topics such as visual
arts, music, theater, creative writing, and dance, we have passed
on skills that have defined and perpetuated our culture. State curriculum
regulations in Pennsylvania continue to support this tradition by
encouraging the performance and exhibition of the arts, evaluation
and critical response to works, and the development of aesthetic
understanding.
Through
arts integration, in which arts processes are used
to support the acquisition of knowledge in core curricular areas
- such as math, social studies, language arts, and science - a further
usefulness for the arts is dawning. More and more, educators are
recognizing the value of interdisciplinary coursework and team teaching
to provide greater depth of learning and more impetus for original
thinking and problem-solving by students.
The
pooled talents and resources of classroom teachers and their own
school's arts specialists create the strongest foundation on which
to build this type of teamwork. But the collaboration need not stop
there.
Within
ArtLinks you will meet individual artists and arts organizations
with much knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to offer your school.
In our ArtLinks articles, you will learn how best to utilize their
services.
The
dictionary says that art is the creation of something beautiful,
appealing, and of more than ordinary significance. We hope that
through Arts-In-Education, you can link up with arts resources that
will help your teaching - and your students' learning - become a
more artful process.
