Lehigh Valley Arts Council dedicates Second Work in Continuing Public Art Sculpture Series

Sculpture to Display Arts Materials at the Lehigh Valley International Airport

Allentown, PA - The Lehigh Valley International Airport hosts the second commissioned work in the Lehigh Valley Arts Council's public art sculpture series. "The series reflects the first tenet of the Arts Council mission is ‘to promote the arts,' said Randall Forte, Executive Director of the LVAC, "and the arts should be promoted in artful ways."

again brings her unique vision to a three-dimensional materials display, located on the lower level of the airport. The steel sculpture "Imagine" displays information about the arts and local art communities in the Lehigh Valley, including the LVAC's Arts Calendar and other materials from its collaborative arts marketing partnerships. Unique to this sculpture is an LCD panel incorporated into the metalwork, which features unique arts related images in the Lehigh Valley for visitors to the airport.

The dedication ceremony of "Imagine" took place on August 21, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, and was open to the public. The sculpture was funded through the generosity of The Philip and Muriel Berman Foundation.

Says Fedon: "The airport sculpture, "Imagine," was created with the intent to use color both in broad swipes and playful interaction. Color seems most obviously to represent the arts. The element of the hand on the spring speaks of theatre and puppetry and the inclusion of the digital frame created a multimedia piece. This piece will grab the viewer and intrigue the imagination."

The first sculpture in the series, “Surrounded by Art,” is located at the Lehigh Valley Visitor Center at 840 Hamilton Street in Allentown, on the first floor of the Butz Corporate Center.

“Imagine” is the latest in Fedon’s extensive metalwork portfolio, which appear in corporate and public collections throughout Pennsylvania.  She works primarily in steel and bronze, and has been commissioned extensively for public works.  Fedon is also a longtime member of the LVAC; her work has received numerous awards.
