Lehigh Valley Arts Council Unveils Third Work
in Continuing Public Art Sculpture Series

Sculpture Displays Arts Materials at the Lehigh Valley Zoo

Allentown, PA - The Lehigh Valley Zoo has been selected to host the third installment in the Lehigh Valley Arts Council's (LVAC) Public Art Sculpture Series. Unexpected Treasures, a metal work by Pen Argyl sculptor Lisa Fedon will be unveiled in the lobby of the zoo's administration building at 5150 Game Preserve Road in Schnecksville. The unveiling ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 21 at 11:00am and is open to the public.

Fedon was the commissioned artist for the past two LVAC sculptures. Surrounded by Art is located in the Lehigh Valley Visitor Center at 840 Hamilton Street in Allentown and Imagine is on the first floor of the Lehigh Valley International Airport. Unexpected Treasures is funded through the generosity of The Philip and Muriel Berman Foundation.

The new sculpture relates both to arts organizations and the zoo in the Lehigh Valley according to Fedon. "In many respects, the surprises and wonders of a zoo, right here in the Lehigh Valley are similar to the surprises and wonders of the variety of arts organizations in the Lehigh Valley as well.  The piece, Unexpected Treasures,  is the Lehigh Valley Arts Council's new sculptural brochure holder at the zoo.  It is fabricated out of steel incorporating sculptural elements of a camel, emu and turtle with reference to various other animals and creatures as well.  Information on all the arts organizations in the Lehigh Valley peaks through images like a butterfly and bison.  Don't forget to touch the bat hanging on a rod.," said Fedon of her work. Her work can be seen in public venues across the state and has received numerous awards.

LVAC's Public Art Sculpture Series is a reflection of the Council's mission to promote the arts and to connect art with the community. "The LVAC believes that the arts are essential to the economic prosperity and quality of life in the Lehigh Valley," said LVAC Executive Director Randall Forte.
