Arts Calendar

  • Although the arts are best experienced up close and personal, the spread of Covid-19 has required people to stay at a safe distance from others. Adapting to this new reality has many arts businesses expanding their digital foot print.
  • Now, we’ve assembled a new resource to highlight the virtual activities that our members are producing. Please page through the latest version of the Calendar Launch Pad on the right.

The Arts Calendar, the go-to resource for arts and culture events in the three county region, is produced by the Lehigh Valley Arts Council. Below on this page is a digital version of the calendar.

A seven-year-old falls in love with dance; at 40 she practices every day to stay in the game; as a senior, she keeps moving. Working with a locally-sourced ensemble of dancers ranging in age from twelve to 70, choreographer Monica Bill Barnes and documentary theater artist Robbie Saenz de Viteri incorporate movement and personal stories for an unprecedented look at this most physically demanding, yet spiritually rewarding profession. “You have to love dancing to stick to it,” testified Merce Cunningham. “It gives you nothing back, but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive.” $27 general public, $6 youth and student

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Okinawa’s return to Japan from the United States, the prefecture’s most skillful artists illuminate a rich cultural heritage in a program curated by the artistic director of the National Theatre Okinawa, Michihiko Kakazu. Accomplished and exquisite, these expert performers capture the elegant court dance and stylized musical-theater (kumiodori)of the Ryukyu Kingdom (15th-19th centuries), as well as the lively folk dances (zo-odori) and cheerful rhythms of ensemble music on sanshin, koto, fue, kokyu, and taiko. The sumptuous bingata costumes and the music’s iconic use of pentatonic scales burnish Okinawa’s distinctive artistry. $27 general public, $6 student and youth
